Position Summary: The Licensed Mental Health Professional/Licensed Clinical Coordinator provides clinical leadership and supervision for the agency.
A Licensed Mental Health Professional/Licensed Clinical Coordinator is a person who has a graduate degree in a mental health-related field from an accredited institution and is licensed to practice in the states of Louisiana and Texas by the applicable professional board of examiners. The following professionals are LMHPs:
- Psychiatrist
- Licensed medical doctor who is board-certified or board eligible (a board-eligible psychiatrist must meet other requirements).
- Authorized to practice psychiatry in Louisiana and Texas.
- Enrolled to participate in the Louisiana and Texas Medicaid Programs
- Licensed Clinical or Medical Psychologist
- Licensed as a practicing psychologist under the provisions of R.S. 28:2351-2367
- Licensed and authorized to practice in the States of Louisiana and Texas
- Enrolled to participate in the Louisiana and Texas Medicaid Programs
- Registered Advanced Practitioner Registered Nurse (APRN)
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Specialty (PMHNP)
- Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Louisiana and Texas by the Board of Nursing
- Licensed and authorized to practice nursing in Louisiana
- Enrolled to participate in Louisiana and Texas Medicaid Programs.
- Licensed Social Worker (LCSW)
- Has a master’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work
- Is a licensed clinical social worker under the provisions of R.S. 37:2701-2723
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Has a master’s degree from an accredited school of counseling
- Is a licensed professional counselor under the provisions of R.S. 37:1101-1115

Mental Health Professional (MHP)

Position Summary: The Mental Health Professional is responsible for providing approved MHR services to our agency’s clients assigned to their caseload.
- Has a master’s degree in social work, Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited college or University. A master’s degree in a related human service field and 70% of the academic curriculum is specific to mental/behavioral health coursework. This qualified group can assume role of MHP but is only allowed to provide Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services (PSR).
- Has a minimum of 15 hours of graduate level course work and/or practicum experience in applied intervention strategies/methods designed to address behavioral and/or emotional and/or mental problems. These hours may be obtained as a part of or in addition to the master’s degree.
- Has Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC), Provisionally Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (PLMFT), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Certified Social Worker (CSW), or psychology intern from an APA approved internship program- Only in providing Community Psychiatric Support Treatment.
- Completes and is right standing with all pre-employment and post-employment requirements specific to all governing entities.
Mental Health Specialist (MHS)

Position Summary: The Mental Health Specialist is responsible for providing approved MHR services to our agency’s clients assigned to their caseload.
- Has a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college degree in social work, counseling, or psychology, sociology, rehabilitation services, special education, early childhood education, secondary education, family and consumer sciences, criminal justice, or human growth and development.
- Has at least one year experience working with individuals with mental/behavioral health disorders.
- Completes and is right standing with all pre-employment and post-employment requirements specific to all governing entities.

- Provides on-going clinical monitoring needs specific to treatment goals, desired treatment outcomes, maintenance, and stabilization.
- Provides individual Psychosocial Rehabilitation Skills Training and supportive intervention utilizing a restorative and rehabilitation approach to service delivery.
When prescribed, facilitate PSR Groups to eligible clients with group prescription of services. - Participates in staff training assignments, as requested.
- Assist in gathering information for assessment, review, and reassessment processes for assigned clients.
- Identify, report, and maintain weekly appointments for community resources.
- Complete accurate, comprehensive, and appropriate progress notes based on rendering of services while adhering to the agency’s policies and procedures and other governing entities guidelines.
- Assumes lead role specific to crisis intervention and crisis mitigation specific to the assigned client’s needs.
- Participate in the coordination of arranging transportation for client to psychiatrist for psychiatric evaluations and/or follow-up medication management and monitoring appointments.
- Serves in multi-purpose human service role to ensure that client has access to appropriate care with other identified professionals or organizations based on presenting concerns and/or other concerns that the agency is not licensed to provide.
- Consistently engage in professional code of conduct and adhere to all agency’s policies and procedures.

- Serves as lead clinician on the MHR assessment team and is responsible for each assigned client in which services are rendered by conducting face -to-face interviews with the clients, families and/or significant other in person or telehealth with required documentation for the assessment process.
- Responsible for the completion of the initial assessment process and/or reassessments as an independent assignment without assuming any responsibility for client after authorization has been received unless assigned to assessor’s supervisory team post approval.
- Responsible for administering the LOCUS for adults and CALOCUS for children/adolescents specific to our Louisiana office and the ANSA for adults and CANS for children/adolescents specific to our Texas office. The assessor must be an approved Clinical Evaluator.
- Act as team leader of the treatment and service planning process inclusive of signing and dating applicable treatment documentation.
- Provide crisis intervention services for community support staff as needed.
- Notify the provider’s psychiatrist staff of any significant change in a client’s physical or mental status.
- Provides all core services except medication management, when needed to fulfill the approved service agreement.
- Assures that all activity plans are developed and implemented.
- Coordinates all services for the MHR clients. This includes but is not limited to the following:
- Assurance of active client involvement in all aspects of care.
- Coordination and management of all services provided through MHR agency.
- Access and coordination of services provided through non-MHR agencies
- Completes Initial Screening of prospective clients.
- Supervises all non-licensed mental health staff that serve as a member of his/her assigned client’s team, meeting the supervision requirements of the MHR program
- Evaluates charts of a representative sample of caseload quarterly.
- Consults with physicians, nurses, clinical personnel, or other relevant treatment providers to develop a comprehensive integrated individualized treatment for continuity of care.
- Submits clinical progress with required and appropriate documentation, signatures, functioning titles, credentials, and dates.
- Returns calls promptly.
- Maintains list of all persons referred to other agencies.
- Monitor’s assessment process.
- Assists with other projects related to the agency operations, as requested.
- Attends all scheduled staff training, team meetings, etc.
- Other clinical duties as deemed necessary for quality client care.
